For sale is a wonderful piece of Art Glass made by The Pairpoint Manufacturing Company of New Bedford, Mass. The item is a Wheel Cut Compote and it is done in the most popular Amethyst base glass. The Compote is a nice size as it stands 4 1/2" tall and is 8 1/4" in diameter. The foot has a diameter of 3 3/8".
The Compote displays a very pleasing Purple Color when out of Sunlight. When it is in sunlight the Compote displays a very beautiful subtle Amethyst Color. The wheel cutting is just outstanding!! The Cutting is deep and well defined. The Cutting has an Italian Flair in design. It is "Grapes and Leaves" and it is a design that intertwines and connects one leaf to the next with grapes hanging between them. The outside border of the compotes shows tiny oval football shaped cutting that totally encompasses the top rim. The foot even has wheel cutting of 4 Grapes Leaves. Truly a lovely piece of Art Glass!!
The Compote is considered to be in excellent condition as there are no cracks, nicks, chips or dings. The only issue to report is a scratch on the inside dimple portion in the center of the compote. There is minor scratches to the bottom foot. This is common for an 80 year old piece. The piece is not signed but is does display a counter sunk polished pontil. The tell tale sign of a quality piece of Art Glass. This is a documented Pairpoint Compote and was the same quality level of Steuben Colored Glass at the turn of the century. This Compote was made Circa 1920-1925.
