European walnut crest, Italian, 15th to 17th century. Carved with a crowned woman holding a banner and a shield, astride a lion, flanked by a pair of kneeling stags surmounted by eagles. Traces of red and green pigment and gold leaf. 14.75 inches long x 5.25 inches high x 2 inches deep. This was the center piece on a Sicilian ox cart.
