DESCRIPTION:
This is a lovely 8-Day oak and mahogany longcase clock which is in superb condition and is exceptionally detailed. The clock is in perfect working order having recently been professionally cleaned and serviced. This clock is absolutely perfect for anyone looking for a clock to place straight into their home.

If we start with the hood, this has swan necks with superb brass pateras. Pretty reeded columns which have been nicely inlaid flank the hood door. To the rear are straight back splats. The door is mahogany veneered.

If we then move down to the trunk it has a lovely triple peak door cross banded in mahogany. The door is also complete with it's lock and key which is fully working. The door is then flanked by square reeded columns which have been nicely inlaid with stringing. Also below the door is a pretty mahogany cross banded panel.

Finally the base has canted corners and a lovely shaped applied panel which again has been cross banded in mahogany. The base is raised on lovely shaped bracket feet.

The dial with makers name of 'John Smith WREXHAM', has the four corners adorned with wonderful conch shell which has been created and surrounded in fabulous vivid colours. There is also a pretty cottage painted to the centre of the dial. The dial is set out with Roman Numerals. There is subsidiary date aperture. The dial also has the most wonderful fretted fingers.

The movement is eight day duration and is rack striking on a single bell. The movement is in perfect working order having recently been professionally cleaned and serviced. As can be seen from the photographs the movement is immaculately clean.

There are one 'John Smith, WREXHAM' listed in 'Watchmakers & Clockmakers of the World Volume 2 by Brian Loomes:

'SMITH John, junior. Wrexham. Son of John senior born 1803. Succeeded father in 1830, died 1868'.
