SOLD Antique 18th century Hungarian Pandur- Infantry officer’s sword with a typical 18th century Hungarian hussar brass stirrup hilt knuckle bow, quillon with bud-shaped terminal, a pair of langets, a back-piece decorated with an elaborated radial pattern, with an almond shaped flat pommel, retaining its original wooden grip covered with ribbed brass foil. The bounding of the wooden grip in metal foil is distinguishing for 17th -18th century Hungarian swords. An extremely curved single edged blade in the scimitar style without a fuller, stamped along each side of the back-edge with circles forming a continuously waving pattern. The sword comes with its original wooden scabbard covered by brass foil repousee, and chased in scrolling foliage, applied with a loop for suspension.

REFERENCE: An 18th century Hungarian sword with a similar hilt as this one is published in the Hungarian sword reference book “Kardok” (Sword) by Jozsef Lugosi; Ferenc Temesvari, Figure 133. Described as an 18th century Hungarian sword.

CONDITION: One of the langets is shortened, the brass foil of the scabbard is with cracks, the end is worn out, which are good signs of the age and usage, which can be expected from an over 250 year old sword.

MEASUREMENTS: Overall length with the scabbard: 75 cm ( 29 1/2 in), the length without the scabbard: 75 cm ( 29 1/2 in).
