ADAMS JASPERWARE BISCUIT BARREL

After reading the markings we are estimating this piece to be made around 1896.

Jasperware is unglazed nonporous stoneware. The name Jasperware originated from the fact that it closely resembled the hardness of the jasper stone. The neoclassic relief design was hand applied by craftspeople and featured white cameo figures in bas-relief. The figures are fired right on to each piece for durability. Jasperware has been produced for 200 years and still made by hand. It has recently gained popularity again with collectors & artists.

This is a fabulous antique jasperware biscuit jar, biscuit barrel, cracker jar or cookie jar. It is blue jasperware with silver plated fittings, lid, rim and handle. The biscuit jar is in the globe or barrel shape. The background is blue with white relief figures and white trim on the top. This one includes the rare and desirable Hunting Scene-Fox Hunt.
The Markings on the bottom are "ADAMS ESTABLISHED 1657 TUNSTALL ENGLAND" Also the marks, "S.....J.C"......for artist initials.

A wonderful multi purpose piece that will add beauty and charm to any home.

CONDITION:
Adams Jasperware Biscuit Barrel in very good condition with all the appropriate marks. The white figures are in excellent condition along with the blue body. There are some marks on the lid and handle as you will see in the photos requiring a good polishing.

There are some dark spots inside and the handle has a slight bend. Considering the age this is in very good shape. I have seen other examples of Adams hunt scene items selling for much higher prices.

MEASUREMENTS:
5 ½” Tall x 5 ¾” diameter on the bottom, the opening where the lid is 3 ¼” diameter.
