SOLD Fine antique 19th century 1874 British Victorian all Sterling Silver superbly executed paper knife, in the form of a sword with a scabbard of 1821/1822 light cavalry pattern. The hilt is with a three bar guard, ribbed grip, with an integral backpiece. A slightly curved sterling silver blade of excellent quality, with a pronounced ricasso and full-length fuller, stamped with silver hallmarks. The sterling silver scabbard is stamped with silver hallmarks, applied with a mouthpiece, shoe, and two bands with suspension rings and a chain.

Both the scabbard, and the sword, are fully hallmarked with a lion for England, a leopards head for London, Victoria's head for the Victorian era, and the date marked “t” in a shield for 1874, and the maker’s mark EHS, for E.H. Stockwell. The suspension rings are also stamped with the lion hallmark.

Edward Stockwell was a famous British Victorian silversmith specialized in the manufacture of presentation swords, cup, and bottle mounts, in gold and silver, for the British upper classes. This is a very fine example of this type of work.

The photographs do not give a true representation of the quality of this item.

MEASUREMENTS: The overall length in the scabbard is approximately: 19 cm (7 1/2 in). The overall length without the scabbard is approximately: 18 cm (7 1/8 in).

WEIGHT: 56 grams (2 troy oz).

CONDITION: The sword is of a very good gauge of silver, and of very good quality. It is in excellent condition, and has clear hallmarks.
