Here is a wonderful example of this highly sought after German mineral water bottle. It bears the large seal of the German city of Pyrmont, where the famous water was bottled. Large fantastic stout mallet form with sheared lip, string rim, conical kick-up in base with pontil scar. Beautiful deep olive shading, darker in neck and base. About 9 ¾” tall with mild outside scratches and light inside stain. The bottle is not cleaned and was an under water find in the Berbice River, Guyana, near the site of the old Dutch Fort Nassau several years ago. No cracks or chips, virtually perfect for an “excavated” find!
This is the only example of this rare bottle found so far with the seal applied upside down, probably so that the seal could be easily read when the bottle was stored on its side aboard ship to prevent cork shrinkage during the long ocean voyage. This bottle was made this way for export purpose. RARE, RARE, RARE!
