An exceptional antique 19th century Napoleonic Silver-Mounted Kiln-fired Enamel circular Snuff Box. A domed cover finely hand painted with a portrait of Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte, after Jacques-Louis David, depicting Napoleon in his famous standing pose with his hand in his vest, wearing his famous uniform of the Colonel of Chasseurs Cheval de la Garde Imperial. A spherical compressed body, finely painted with continues military scenes with Napoleon Bonaparte on his white horse, the bottom of the Snuff Box decorated with the Imperial letter āNā initial monogram.
The inner of the lid bears Napoleon's coat of arms, with the Imperial eagle, and the interior of the box is painted with the Imperial letter āNā initial monogram on a Roman shield. Gold gild silver mountings, hallmarked on the collar of the silver mounting of the box, and the lock of the cover, with two very small unidentified hallmarks.
We do not know if the enamel is on a copper, or silver body.
MEASUREMENTS: Diameter: 7.6 cm (3 in). Height: 3.5 cm (1 3/8 in).
CONDITION: Chipped enamel on the edge of the cover near the hinge, otherwise in good condition.
WEIGHT: 136 grams (4 3/4 oz).
