This piece is from an excavation site in Herat, Afghanistan.I believe to be the original carving, and was copied by or others. It is a fine example of the earliest jade carvings known to exist. There is a a piece that I have seen(web-sites),(beautiful&white) ,with description saying from the Han Dynasty.Very similar, but the piece I have ,has no beautiful oriental female faces,no Chinese added scroll etching, and is opaque and very near translucent.Present day Afghanistan in a whole, has no crafstmen with the ability to produce a carving like this. You be the judge!I think this is the real McCoy!I do have the Museum Clearance Document for this piece and was recently(August 2012)cleared by both the Afghani and the US customs.
