This is a work of exquisite craftsmanship. Covered in a thick mahogany and rosewood veneer, the colors exemplified in this chest are simply remarkable. Inlaid with fine marquetry work, the musical instruments central to the commode are flanked on either side by books hanging from knotted ribbon. Two large drawers make up the case, each fully dovetailed front and back, exposed on the sides. Crisp gilt bronze mounts grace the corners and feet, allowing the cabriole legs to terminate in lion paw feet. The shaped marble top is heavy and in wonderful condition, restored at the back left corner.
This is a simply outstanding work for anyone passionate about Neoclassical forms of the Louis XV influence. It is closely crafted after the originals, with petite dimensions that are suitable for any setting. This piece is flexible, working just as perfectly in the bedroom as it does in the dining room as a server. In outstanding condition, this is a piece you will cherish for a lifetime and if well cared for will certainly be passed down through the generations.
