Bring good fortune to your life with this unusually large, exceptional 19th Century Japanese carved wood statue of Daikoku, the god of wealth (one of the seven lucky gods of Japan). He is in his traditional pose with his sack of treasure slung over his shoulder, holding his magic mallet (which produces coins and wishes) and standing on two bales of rice (signifying abundance). This robust figure carved out of a large native Japanese cypress(Kiso-Himoki) trunk (see the rings on the bottom) stands 15" high, is 9" wide and 9 1/2" deep. circa 1850.
