This pair of elegantly styled Gold Gilt Porcelain Guardian Lions, also called Foo Dogs, will surely bring protection and happiness to their new owner. Foo means happiness in Chinese. These powerful mythic protectors have traditionally stood in front of Chinese imperial palaces in pairs with the male (with mouth open) on the right, guarding the structure, and female (closed mouth) on the left, guarding those who dwell inside. The pair comes on their own custom rosewood stands. Circa 1890s - turn of the Century. Dimensions: h. 14" w. 15" d. 7" each.
