1862 Small Folio Print

Published by Currier & Ives in 1862, this print, “The Great Fight between the ‘Merrimac’ & the ‘Monitor’ March 9th 1862,” is a lithograph on paper with hand coloring. The print is listed by Conningham as number 2612. The image size is 8 2/16” x 12 10/16” (small folio). It has margins of 3/16”to ¼” and is framed in a period frame with acid-free backing. The image is very good and sharp with bright coloring.
The print illustrates “the first battle between ironclad ships of war. From a sketch furnished by F. Newman of Norfolk, VA.”
This colorful and historic print is from our father's estate collection. It would be an outstanding collection addition for anyone interested in Currier & Ives and/or American Civil War naval history.
