Desert House Gila Pottery Kachina Tile - For Sale

Desert House Gila Pottery Kachina Tile
Price: $95.00
This tile by the Gila Pottery and Desert House shows a Hopi Kachina. With the colorful headress and outspread eagle wings, I believe this is a Hemis Kachina, which is most often used for the Home-Going ceremony, when the Kachinas leave the mesa. It is one of the most appropriate Kachinas for this farewell, as it is the first Kachina to bring mature corn to the people, indicating a good harvest. The condition of this piece is excellent, with a little rubbing to the corners. The back reatins some of the original cork backing, with the ink stamp for Desert House Crafts of Tuscon Arizona. Status: For Sale Reference#: 04091602 Condition: Excellent Year: c. 1950''s Country: USA Maker: Gila Pottery Height: 6 in. (15.24 cm) Width: 6 in. (15.24 cm) Style: Southwestern Materials: red faience clay
