This is a lovely decorative tin portrait plate made in France in 1905. It is the portrait of a young Caterina de'' Medici of Florence who later became the wife of Henry 1V of France. She was a patroness of the arts and a leader in the Renaissance Movement. The tin is in good condition with some loss of paint on the gold borders and a slight loss on her left eyebrow. The colors are rich blue background with a scrolling wide gold border. In the portrait she is a young maiden with flowing locks and flowers in her hair. Her costume is ornate with a high ruffled collar and golden jewelry. The plate is 13'' in diameter. This plate is one of a series of the royalty of Europe done in the method of early lithography. Many of the others were originally painted by Asti. It is a beautiful decorative accessory, ready for display.
