Fulper Pottery, Sleeping Cat Doorstop, Black and Cream Flambé
Price: $1800.00
For Sale I have one of the Rarest pieces of Art Pottery made by The Fulper Pottery Company of Flemington, New Jersey. The item is a known as "The Sleeping Cat" Doorstop. It is the nicest "Sleeping Cat" Doorstop that I have ever seen. The Doorstop measures 9 3/4" wide by 5 5/8" tall and 5 1/2" deep. The Doorstop is done in a Black and Cream Flambé with hints of Chinese Blue Flambé on the back ass end. This Glaze is a 10 out of a 10. Fulper Glazes don't get any better than this. The face of this pretty little Kitty is just Gorgeous!! The Hints of Cream Flambé on her Face, Back of her Head, Left Hind Leg and Left Thigh depicts very realistic colors of a Cat. Just look at her face you Kitty Lovers will agree that she is just beautiful. The Doorstop is considered to be in excellent condition as there are no cracks, nicks, chips or dings. There is the tiniest glaze fleck on her top hind quarter and a few minor scratches next to her left arm. I was told there was a invisible professional restoration to one of the ears. I have looked it over very carefully cannot tell which ear it is. There are a few very tiny glaze pin pops on her lower left air and can only be seen upon close inspection. All these issues are mentioned for accuracy sake and do not take away from the Value of this Rare Find. I have had only one others of these in all my 35 years as a Collector and Dealer. I sold it for $1700 about 10 years ago. This one's beauty puts that one to shame. This doorstop is truly that Nice. She weights about 10 lbs. The Piece is signed on the bottom with Fulper's Earliest Ink Stamp mark. That mark was used during the Vasekraft Years and it is the "Fulper" inside a "Vertical Rectangle" Ink Stamp Mark. This dates the piece to their earliest period, 1909-1916. This is known as shape number 466 in Fulper's Catalog. This Doorstop is for the advanced Fulper Collector and I am Positive the Lucky Purchaser will be elated when they receive it. Fulper Pottery won the gold Medal of Honor at the San Francisco Panama-Pacific Exposition in 1915. At that time Fulper was producing Doorstops in the form of domestic Animals, inspired by Chinese Tradition. Pottery Doorstops are very Rare. To find one in this Condition with this Fabulous Glaze and Great Subject Matter with virtually no damage is a feat in itself.
