Hampshire Pottery, Matt Green Ewer, Cucumber Mottling~~
Price: $495.00
For Sale I have a splendid Arts and Crafts piece of Art Pottery made my Hampshire Pottery of Keene, New Hampshire. The Piece is a Ewer and it is done in Hampshire's most Popular Matte Cucumber Greene Glaze. The Ewer is 6 3/8" tall, 6" wide and 4 1/4" deep. This Ewer displays one of the nicest and softest Mottled Cucumber Green Glazes on a Hampshire Piece that I have ever owned. The Glaze doesn't get any better than this!! The Deep Matte Cucumber Green Glaze Rivals any Matte Green Glaze produced by Grueby Faience of Boston, Mass. The piece is considered to be in excellent condition as there are no cracks, nicks, chips or dings. It is signed on the bottom side with the Impressed Hampshire Block Lettering thus dating it to Circa 1916-1917. Hampshire Pottery Marks with the M in a Circle puts the dating between 1904-1914. This piece was made after Cadmon Robertson Death. Thus the Impressed Hampshire in a Horizontal mark is a later mark. This is known as Shape Number 5/2 In the Hampshire Pottery Catalog Line. Hampshire Pottery produced 3 Sizes of this Ewer. This is the smallest and the most Popular of the 3 Sizes. I would consider this an excellent example of this Matt Green Glaze and Shape or Mold Number. Hampshire started producing Matte Glazes in 1891. This was 7 years earlier than their main Competitor Grueby Faience of Boston, Mass. Hampshire Pottery resembles the style of Grueby but were much more affordable as they were mold made pieces as opposed to hand thrown. This will make a wonderful addition to any matte Pottery collection of Art Pottery and would look great on that Stickley Mission Arts and Crafts Bookcase.
