THIS ITEM IS SOLD - A rare example of a ''Friendship Quilt'' which is signed by each of the women who made it and by the two ''state home agents'' who organized and taught the women to make a quilt. Each of the quilt blocks is also hand painted with the favorite flower of each of the women using textile paint (color fast). The women were farmers'' wives in rural Kirksville, Missouri. Dated 1951, all cotton, all hand quilting at 7 stitches per inch in wreath and swag designs and with diagonal, horizontal and vertical lines 3/4'' apart, the assembled blocks are bordered in hand painted flowers. A significant example of material culture from the American heartland. Perfect, virtually unused condition, professionally hand washed, 80'' X 92''.
