ADMIRAL DEWEY COMMEMORATIVE CLOCK BY THE E.INGRAHAM CLOCK COMPANY
The E. Ingraham Clock Company in Bristol, Connecticut produced a line of historically commemorative clocks with Oak cases embossed to display American heros. The cases included various complimentary patterns and the door glasses were appropriate to the person being honored on the top crown of the clock case. This clock features Admiral George Dewey who was the only person in United States history to hold the honorary rank of ADMIRAL OF THE NAVY. This honor was bestowed on Dewey by Congress in 1899 following his defeat of the entire Spanish navy during the Battle of Manila the previous year without loss of any U.S. sailors. The eight-day clock mechanism is clean and running strongly with a full strike on the hours and one strike each half-hour. The case has been restored with a gloss finish and the door glass is original and displays the ship commanded by the Admiral. There is an alarm mechanism in the case which has been disconnected from the clock movement. Many owners did this to prevent interference with the clock's operation. "Dewey" clocks have been selling for over $800 for several years. This represents a good buy for the next owner of the clock.
