DESCRIPTION:
This is a truly exquisite 8-Day mahogany Scottish longcase clock which is in superb condition and of wonderful slim petite proportions. The clock is in perfect working order having recently been professionally cleaned and serviced. This clock is absolutely perfect for anyone looking for a clock to place straight into their home.

If we start with the hood, this has swan necks with superb brass pateras. Pretty turned reeded columns which terminate in brass capitals flank the hood door. To the rear are straight back splats. To the sides of the hood are pretty shaped panels lined in green fabric.

If we then move down to the trunk it has a lovely arched top full length door which has the most wonderful mahogany grain to it. The door is also complete with it's lock and key which is fully working. The door is then flanked by quarter reeded columns. Below the door is a nice panel of mahogany which is famed in mahogany.

Finally the base has been cross banded in mahogany and is raised on lovely shaped ogee bracket feet.

The dial with makers name of 'WIILM Aitken, HADDINGTON', has the four corners adorned with the four season which have been created in fabulous colours and is is unusual to see both gentleman depicting two of the season. Then to the arch is a wonderful scene of a family around a table listening to bible readings and which is entitles 'The Cotters Saturday night'. Cotters is the Scottish term for a peasant farmer formerly in the Scottish Highlands. Cotters occupied cottages and cultivated small plots of land.

The dial is set out with Roman Numerals. There is subsidiary second dial and date aperture. The dial also has the most wonderful fretted fingers.The movement is eight day duration and is rack striking on a single bell. The movement is in perfect working order and is immaculately clean having recently been cleaned and serviced.

MAKERS DETAILS:
There is one 'William Aitken of Haddington' listed in 'Clockmakers & Watchmakers of Scotland by Donald Whyte' :
'AITKEN, William. Apprentice watchmaker, Haddington, East Lothian, 1805, and a freeman in 1814'.

The approximate dimensions are:
- 84 inches high
- 19.5 inches across the widest part of the hood
- 13.5 inches across the trunk
- 17.5 inches across the base

CONDITION:
The clock is in wonderful condition, there s a shrinkage crack to the base commenssurate with age. The movement is in perfect working order and is immaculately clean having recently been cleaned and serviced.
