This French 8 Day Mantle Clock by Japy Frères & Cie, is in Excellent Condition, c1850. The case is of Black Belgian marble with accents in Cherry Red marble set on a rosewood base. The clock must be wound once every eight days. It strikes the number of hours on the hour, and once at the half-hour. The works are signed “Japy Frères & Cie, Medal D’ Honneur” and they are stamped with the serial number 11240 and part number 40. The pendulum is 2” in length. A previous repair is noted on the works with the inscription “EMX2.87.” This clock has recently been repaired, cleaned, oiled and adjusted and is in working condition. Founded by Frederic Japy of Beaucount (b. 1749), Japy Frères & Cie became the largest clock making company in France, supplying movements for some of France’s greatest sculptors and cabinet makers, like François Linke.
