Impressive Marti French 1870s Marble Mantle Clock, Medialle de Bronze.

Listing an impressive large French mantle clock made by France’s premier clock maker. This is a marble mantle clock that has just been rebuilt and is in top working order. This clock was made in France about 1870 and is one of the largest marble clocks made by Marti. The movement is solid brass and has a time and strike feature. As with most exquisite French clocks, this clock has a quiet ringing bell. The marble case is magnificent with classic simple lines, scrolls, and incised floral work. The thick bevel glass shows off an open escapement. The case is of marble. The winding key looks like the original key ?. There are a few small and tiny flakes and chips as the photos show. This is just normal age wear for a clock that is about 140 years old. Some of the black marble is faded. This clock is very heavy and will be packed and shipped by our local UPS Store. The size is about 23” long by 13 ¼” tall by 6 ¼” deep. If you collect French Marti clocks, this is one of his best and in my opinion the most elegant with its refined simplicity.

The clock movement was make by Samuel Marti, a well known 19th century French clockmaker. The "Medaille de Bronze" stamping refers to a medal he was awarded first in 1860 and again in 1869. He was awarded a Medaille d'Or in 1889. Call us for a shipping quote now at 770-534-6611.
