Historical Context: This coin was minted in Carthage. Carthage was a great maritime trading city in Zeugitana on the Northern Coast of Africa. It was founded by the Phoenicians in the 8th Cent BC. Through its favorable geographical position and excellent harbor it achieved great wealth and political influence. It was a dominate force the Mediterranean area until the rise of the Roman Empire.
