This beautiful piece was made by a fine company (Irwin) from Grand Rapids, Michigan that was in business from 1919 to 1953. The piece is a replica of a Louis XVI Altona Dresser ( http://www.1stdibs.com/furniture/storage-case-pieces/commodes-chests-of-drawers/altona-dresser/id-f_778806/ ) that sold for $36,000. My limited research and emailing with a furniture historian, Bob Klein, tells me it is most likely a one of a kind or very limited edition of the dresser. Mr. Klein advised that Irwin made beautiful furniture and sent its craftsmen to Europe to learn about different designs. He described this piece as "magnificent" and try not to use it.
I had it professionjally restored, not to museum quality but defintiely as a piece of beautiful art.
