Ching Dynasty Chinese carved cinnabar beaker shaped vase, 2nd half of the 18th century. Converted to a lamp circa 1920 in such a way that the fittings can be removed completely. No holes were drilled. The vase's distinctive key patterns outlining the floral lozenges evolved from archaic pictographs representing clouds and thunder. For a related example, please see Chinese Art, by R. L. Hobson, MacMillan Co, 1927, plate XCVI (96). Note: Mr. Hobson was Keeper of the Department of Ceramics and Ethnography at the British Museum. Fine estate condition. Vase is 11.5" high x 9.5" across the top and 7" across the base. Height to finial is 25". Shipping extra.
