A Fine Derby Porcelain Plate decorated with a Botanical Specimen, Dwarf Cafsia painted by John Brewer, Circa 1796-1801. The circular plate is finely painted with a Dwarf Cafsia. ;The rim with a gilt border and a band of alternating large leaves and a flowering foxglove plant motif. ;small chip to rim at 7:00 o''clock. Diameter: 9 inches Marks: All in underglaze blue. ; Botanical specimem named "Cafsia Chamaccrista and common name: Dwarf ;Cafsia ; Derby mark of crown with crossed battons with #115 below for pattern number. John Brewer, (1764-1816) John was the elder of two brother who both worked at Derby. ;Their parents were both artists and from 1762-1767 had studios in London at Rupert Street. ;Brewer started working at erby in 1795. ;He was a talented watercolourist and "had never applied his art to porcelain painting". ;At Derby, he painted a variety of subject matters including plant and flower painting.
