Wonderful Motto-ware 3 handled beaker, or vase, of outstanding form. This is a really nice example of Torquay pottery which is from South Devon in Britain. It is an early red-ware piece with exceptional sgraffito decoration.
Decoration and signed (stamped) Aller Vale on the bottom.
This is also considered Motto-ware, the 'motto' on the beaker in 2 sides reads: “Be the day weary or be the day long, At last it ringeth to Even song”.
It is stamped by the maker (Aller Vale) on the base along with a number and initials. About 5 7/8” tall x 3 ¾”wide at the mouth. It is in exceptional, but does have an old flat flake on the bottom that barely “peeks” out at the bottom edge, see photos. Green, blue, cream, yellow and brown glazes on the outside with brown on the inside.
Very beautiful and colorful piece!
