Gorgeous rococo revival coin silver butter dish with beautifully sculptured cow finial by Grosjean & Woodward made for Tiffany & Co. c.1850s. Approximately 5" high and 5 1/2" in diameter. 16 troy ounces including the reticulated insert. 4 feet. No monogram. Marks include TIFFANY & CO, the bullet mark for coin silver and G & W. (Grosjean & Woodward). Tiffany, in the early years, before they manufactured their own silver, purchased their silverware from a variety of the major silver manufacturers of the day, among them Grosjean & Woodward. Wonderful coin silver gravy ladle in Gorham's unusual Bust pattern. Approximately 8 3/4" long. Approximately 4 troy ounces. No monogram. Gilt bowl. This beautiful piece was retailed by the prestigious Bailey Company of Philadelphia. circa 1860. The bust is of a woman with what looks like a crown on her head. Marks include the Gorham logo of the lion, anchor and G and BAILEY & Co. Very good condition. « Less

Aesthetic style coin silver octagonal bowl by William Forbes for the famous firm of Ball, Tomkins and Black, New York. Circa 1845. This bowl was probably originally part of a tea and coffee service. It weighs a substantial 12.92 troy ounces and measures 3.5 inches ht. x 5.75 inches diameter. It is beautifully engraved with chinoiserie decoration, using stylized Chinese pagodas and scrolling foliage. One panel is engraved with the family monogram 'MEW.' Excellent condition. « Less

American coin silver water pitcher by Boston silversmith, Vincent LaForme, and retailed by Bigelow Brothers & Kennard. Circa 1855. This pitcher is decorated with a repousse grape vine motif. Vincent LaForme trained with his father and operated one of the last shops in mid-nineteenth century Boston to fashion silver by hand, rather than by than machine. This pitcher demonstrates the fine craftsmanship that was typical of LaForme's work. Monogrammed 'MAP'. Size: 9.5 inches ht. x 6.75 inches across spout x 5 inches diameter. S. Kirk and Son repousse decorated hot water pot in coin silver. Early 11oz. silver hallmark on base indicates a .916 silver standard. Circa 1868-1890. This pitcher is finished all over with crisp repousse decoration of roses in foliage. The angular handle has a ram's head motif and bone insulators. The shallow dome, hinged cover is surmounted with a floral finial. Size: 6.75 inches ht. x 6.25 inches across handle x 3 1/8 inches in diameter. Condition is very good, with a well executed repair at the lower handle joint, and only noticeable upon close inspection with magnification. « Less

Pair of American coin silver open salts by Robert and William Wilson, working in Philadelphia, PA. Circa 1825. Each salt is decorated with a gadrooned rim and is supported by three hoof feet. Hammered interiors; each engraved with original owner's initials 'JCS' and stamped on the underside with the maker's mark R&W WILSON in a rectangle. R&W Wilson silversmiths specialized in the manufacture of quality silver items that continued the designs of earlier forms, such as these salts which are in a 1760's style. Condition: no repairs, but with a moderate dent to the side of one salt and some minor bruising; hallmarks worn but legible. Size: 2.75 inches diameter x 1.25 inches high. « Less

McGrew's book on maker's marks as probably upstate New York. Missing the snuffer & some minor blemishes. The heavy silver nut on the base is over an iron nut, which is probably a later replacement.
