Sterling silver jewelry / trinket box with handpainted miniature portrait of a beautiful young woman holding a bunny rabbit. Silver is hallmarked for London, England, 1899. Measures 2 1/2 inches long and almost 1 1/2 inches high. Oval, hinged box. Unusually deep. No adornment to silver except for the thumbpiece. The top is set with an oval porcelain plaque with a very fine painting of a dark-haired beauty holding a rabbit. She stands in front of a landscape - we see the trees and sky in the background. Wonderful detail - see fine manner eyes, hair and fur were painted, creamy nature of the skin and delicate colouring of the sky. Clearly the work of a master professional. The box is hallmarked on both bottom and lid. Maker''s mark is SC, leopard head, lion and date letter d for 1899. Condition is very good - no dents/dings/losses/wear/restoration.
