Victorian, dated November 30th 1838 1838 Silkwork Sampler by Sarah Hill. Framed in an old wood frame with gilt slip and glass. Mounted to conservator standards on acid free card with chipboard backing. The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in cross stitch throughout. Meandering floral border. Colours light green, cream, dark brown, pink, dark green and gold. Verse reads ''Teach me to feel another''s woe,> To hide the faults I see;> That mercy I to others shew,> That mercy shew to me.''. Signed and dated ''Sarah Hill.Nov.30th,1838.''. A good set of motifs, some finely detailed, including potted flowering plants, flowers, shells, crosses, hearts, crowns, fruit baskets, butterflies and a bowl of flowers. Very Good. Slight loss of ground in the bottom right corner. No stains. No stitch losses. Colours are all good and strong with no noticeable fading. The silks bright and glossy. No colour run. Stretching is very slightly uneven. Frame in very good condition, ready to hang. 16.25ins by 12.25ins wide
