1846 Silkwork Sampler by Ann Slough - For Sale

1846 Silkwork Sampler by Ann Slough
Price: $1100.00
Victorian, dated 1846 1846 Silkwork Sampler by Ann Slough. Framed in an old, possibly original wood frame with gilt slip and rippled glass. Tacked to a wood stretcher frame with card backing and brown paper dust cover. The sampler is worked in fine silk on linen ground, in cross stitch throughout. Meandering floral border. Colours green, blue, pale blue, light brown, light green, gold and brown. Signed and dated ''Ann Slough 1846''. Unusual set of finely embroidered motifs, including churches, a house with a garden, a lady in the garden, potted flowering plants, a rabbit, a stork, two figures with sticks, stag, butterflies, a horse and rider, a swan, birds, duck, sheep, a dove with a floral wreath and a sailing ship. Good. A few small holes. A few patchy stains. Very minor stitch loss to the border. Colours are all good and strong with no noticeable fading. No colour run. Unevenly stretched and overframed. Frame showing some wear and is weak in one or more of the corners, but in our opinion still sturdy enough to hang. 16ins wide by 12.5ins wide
