Sarong Batik Belanda. Hip wrapped Sarung kepala buketan (tubular sarong), Pekalonga, c. 1930 excellent condition. This precise and intricate cloth with pastel shades and artistic treatment of European flowers is eminent example of elegant, high-status batik worn during the mid 1930s. The Indo-European style, kepala (panel) is adorned with a delicate bouquet of chrysanthemums and possibly sprigs of cherry blossoms reflecting Chinese influence.Butterflies placed above flower bouquet. The kepala background is of intricate petal flowers while the larger skirt portion has slanting motif bands with overlay of three additional floral bouquets. Symmetric borders of garlands are edged by tiny striped borders. Hand-drawn canted wax resist on machine woven soft cotton; synthetic dyes; 39" x 78" sewn tube. Flawless condition and collector quality.
