For sale is a Vintage Purse with matching Coin Purse made by the Whiting & Davis Company of Plainville, Massachusetts. They are made in the ever popular gold tone mesh and are a very nice example of their work. The purse measures 6 1/2" tall and 8 1/4" wide at the base. The frame width is 5 7/8" wide and has a 6" handle. The Coin Purse measures 2 1/2" tall and 3 1/2" wide when closed. It opens up to accomodate bills on the interior and measures 6 3/4" when open.

The Purse has a metal mesh armor exterior and a peach satin liner. The Purse is very functional as there is a good size compartment for necessities with a kiss clasp that closes securely. There is an interior open pocket that might have held a mirror although I am not sure of this as it seems as though it was never used. The gold handle is a rope type thicker chain than most I've seen but it is to accomodate the weight of the purse and change purse and compliments them nicely. There is a simple but elegant frame with fleur de lis type decorations on each corner of the frame.

The Coin Purse is just darling! It has a change compartment that closes tightly with a kiss clasp. There is also a snapping closure compartment in order to hold cash. This has a black satin lining and adding to my delight and surprise at the remarkable condition of this little gem, there is also the original blue shield shaped tag. The tag reads Whiting & Davis MADE IN U.S.A. along with their typical logo.

The Purse and change purse are considered to be in Excellent Condition as there are no tears in the linings and no unpleasant odors. The metal armor mesh is all in fine condition and the frames and hinges are undamaged as well.

The main Purse is signed on both sides of the frame MADE IN U.S.A. along with the MESH WHITING & DAVIS Co BAGS logo. There are also the numbers 2994 which is the style number of the frame. The peach lining has a white satin label sewn onto the inside pocket that reads "MESH WHITING & DAVIS BAGS TRADEMARK REG. MADE IN U.S.A.". The Whiting and Davis Signature in this fashion dates the purse to be Circa late 1940s-50s.
