Antique early VIctorian day / night 18carat gold cannetille drop earrings. Made circa 1830-80. 2 1/8- 2 1/4 inches long; weigh 11 grams. Earrings worn through the ear back to front in classic French / European fashion. The upper part is a wheel of exquisite filigree wirework and granulation. Loops suspend the conical drops that dangle and swing as the wearer moves. Openwork cannetille - extremely fine detail and outstanding craftmanship. Not hallmarked, but tests 18k gold.
