Dugan Glass Company, Rose Bowl, Aqua, Gold, White Frit~~
Price: $175.00
For Sale I have a very pretty piece of glass made by the Dugan Glass Company of Indiana, Pennsylvania. The shape is a Pinched Rose Bowl and the pattern is Venetian, Pompeian, or Japanese, which all refer to imported fashion crazes of the period.. The Rose Bowl measures approximatel 4 1/16" tall and is 3 15/16" wide.

The Rose Bowl has a base color of Aqua decorated with vertical ribs of Whie and Iridized Gold Frit. This technique was introduced by Dugan and was meant to compete with the the great Czech glass houses of the Art Nouveau period. The Rose Bowl was mold made and put back in the oven and fired and the White and Gold Frit became part of the Vase. Frit is little pieces of glass that were put back in the oven with the form however there is a slight variation in the composition of the particles making it possible to use as a surface decoration without completely blending and melting into the piece being worked on. You can actually feel it on the surface of the glass.

The Rose Bowl is considered to be in Excellent Condition as there are no cracks, nicks or dings. The piece is unsigned as is the case with these pieces.

This method reminds me a little bit some of the LCT Tiffany Favrile Cypriote Glass examples. This is a quality piece of early American Art Glass. There is documentation that this was a design in the 1898 Catalog of The National Glass Company in which Thomas Dugan was a Partner. The Dugan Glass Company Came into being 1902-1906.
