For Sale I have a very nice piece of Art Pottery made by Marblehead Pottery of Marblehead, Mass. This Piece of Art Pottery is a known as a "Bud or Stick" Vase. The Vase is considered to be a Cabinet Size Vase. The piece stands 6" tall and is 2 7/8" in diameter at the foot and the top opening is 1 1/8" outside diameter. The Vase displays a rich yet subtle matte Lilac or Lavender purple glaze. The interior of the vase shows a speckled white waterproofing glaze. The Vase is not perfectly straight which shows clearly this Vase was what we Pottery Collector's call "Hand Thrown" as this is not a Mold made piece. When you hold this Vase in your Hands you can feel the Quality and Strength of the piece. The Vase is considered to be excellent condition as there are no cracks, nicks, chips or dings. The Vase is signed on the bottom with Marblehead's Impressed Ship Logo along with the Capital Letters "M" and "P" for Marblehead Pottery on each side of the ship. This logo is somewhat obscured by the Glaze but I was able to capture a picture of it under bright light to show you. Those of you who collect Marblehead Pottery and want a nice example of this Glaze do not let this one Pass you by. In my research I noticed that most of these Vases can be found quite easily in Blue, Gray and Brown. I have seen few examples of Yellow and Green. I rarely see examples in this Lilac Purple Glaze. This would look just outstanding in or on that Stickley, Mission Style Arts and Crafts Bookcase. This piece was made Circa 1904-1915. Marblehead Pottery was established in 1904 by Dr. Herbert J. Hall as a Studio Art Pottery in Marblehead, Massachusetts using the art and technique of ceramics manufacturing and decorating as a rehabilitation and therapeutic aid to local sanitarium patients at Hall's Devereux Mansion Sanitarium. Marblehead Pottery stopped producing Art Pottery in 1936. Marblehead Pottery was a small Pottery Company never employing more than 6 workers. Their Pottery is considered somewhat scare as compared to their Contemporaries of the day.
