Antique Bakshaish Persian Carpet, (Bakhshaish or Bakhshaysh), late nineteenth century - Antique Bakshaishes with allover patterns are less common than ones with medallion compositions, but examples like this with a diagonal grid of fine geometric forms are rare indeed. This one has the design of a lovely little Caucasian expanded into monumental scale. The precise, crisp, angular drawing and warm coloration combine to make this carpet as decorative and delightful as it is unusual.
