Antique Yastik rug from Turkey, late nineteenth centuryThe field of this charming Anatolian 'Yastik' or pile pillow cover consiste of parallel border stripes with narrow guard stripes separating and framing them. The vinescrolls are highly naturalistic and lifelike, reflecting the strong western artistic influence that swept across the Ottoman Turkish region in the course of the nineteenth century. The rich red field provides the perfect foil for the pale gold, green, and soft blues.
