AN EARLY ISLAMIC/LATE BYZANTINE TERRACOTTA OIL LAMP

An Early Islamic/ Late Byzantine mold-made lamp of Syro-Palestine manufacture. Composed of buff clay with a large filling hole surrounded by a triple molding. The elongated nozzle is sooty and bears a channel framed by high ridges. A high conical handle rises from the rear of the lamp. A large cross is present on the bottom of the lamp, a keel-ridge runs from the ring base. In very good and original condition. Very small, minor chip on base.

3.98 x 2.8 x 1.77 inches (10.1 x 7.1 x 4.5 cms)
