Price: $100.00
Abel Lurat A nineteenth century French etcher, Abel Lurat studied art in Paris under Jouanin and Belloc. His first etchings date from the mid 1850’s and his work was regularly exhibited at the Paris Salon from 1865 onwards.

Lurat concentrated upon etchings and engravings based upon the designs of contemporary French artists. His ability to render light and shade and tonal values in line made him much sought after by Paris publishers. Meditation was designed by Anatole Vely (1838-1882), an artist who specialized in portrayals of women.

The etching is on hand-made, laid paper and with large, full margins as published in Paris in 1875. Signed in the plate by both Lurat and Vely along the lower plate-mark. A finely printed impression and in very good condition throughout. Meditation represents a prime original example of the etched art of Abel Lurat.

Abel Lura ”Meditation” Etching measures 12 .50 by 6 inches, inscribed & signed in the plate. This is in good condition.
