This fine piece celebrates Nature's wisdom and beauty with its striking colorful display of flowers. Champleve is an process of working metal by which it is chased or carved and manipulated to create delicate brass metal indentations within which these miniature compartments are filled with different colored enamels in paste form, and the object is then fired at extremely high temperatures in order to fuse the enamel to the surface and develop its transparency and permanent colors. This process of filling and firing has to be repeated many many times, once for each color. Circa late 1890s. Dimensions approx. 9.5" high X 6.5" diameter.
