Pair of tusks from a wild boar (a Captain Cook boar, New Zealand). One is in its original state, unpolished. Can be carefully polished and decorated or capped in gold or silver. Hollow down to the last couple of inches. Measures 11.25 cm wide and 2 cm thick. Has the usual wear groove at the end where the tusk overlaps the lower jaw teeth. Very good original condition, has a split at the widest end about 3 cm long - if you want to polish this, just cut this bit off. The other tusk has a cut in it and is slightly shorter. In the very early 20th century it was quite a fashion to make brooches and pendants out of these ivories. (The wild boar is not a protected species).
