1920’s Large Sepia Photo of New York City Sack Race! #PP886 - For Sale

1920’s Large Sepia Photo of New York City Sack Race! #PP886
Price: $25.00
Here is an authentic 1920’s sepia print of a New York City potato sack race! Very unusual subject matter! About 13 ½” x 11” and in fair - good condition without any restoration. The photo is of a group of people; men and women (one wearing a period tall hat) and a boy (dressed in a 3 piece suit and spats), with 4 men, wearing 3 piece suits with watch chains, in their sacks, getting ready to start a potato sack race. Some men are motioning with their fingers to bet. One sack is advertising “Cobbler Potatoes”. Apparently taken in a back yard with tree, tall wooden fence and old building in background.
The photo is signed “C.R Steindl, N.Y.” in lower left corner in pencil. (So far we have not found any information on this name, but if we do the price will certainly go up!) There are some odd marks, minor losses and corner folds as seen in the photos. The paper is also yellowed with age and is slightly curling. We have taken some photos of the print out of the frame so you can see the reflections of the sepia and the back. There is a double vertical line, that can be seen in reflective light, down the middle of the print that is from the sepia and not damage or a fold. Comes with the gaudy frame, but will look real sharp professionally matted in a deco frame!
Price is firm.
