Authentic Antique Byzantine bronze pectoral Reliquary Cross, circa 9th-12th century A.D. Composed of two separately-cast halves hinged at the base and pinned to a suspension loop above.
Cast and chiseled in low relief with the Crucifixion on the obverse and the Virgin Orans on the reverse.
DIMENSIONS: Height: 5 cm (2 in). Width: 2 cm (0.787402 in).
CONDITION: In its original condition showing the age and usage. Remarks: Reliquary crosses were bought as mementos of pilgrimages to holy sites such as Jerusalem.
A holy relic would be placed inside the cross which would then be sealed and worn around the neck.
