An extremely high quality Babylonian cylinder seal of shell, dating to the Akkadian period, 2300-2200 BC.
Impressive seal, 16 mm. thick and 27 mm. long, quite massive in hand.
The seal depicts a sharply carved contest scene between a lion, a dragon(?) and bulls.
The seal is published in 'The cylinder seal as an object d'art', p. 24, by Erik K. Rasmussen 2010.
Condition: EF! Only a hint of fine overall wear, beautyful snow-white shell, finely patinated in the recesses.
