Very rare example! From ancient Peru, ca. 1300 to 1500 AD, Chimu Inca culture. Atl Atl finial of a dog holding an object in its mouth. Carved from purple clam shell, with numerous indentations that once held stone inlays - one inlay still remaining on dog's chest! 1-1/2"L nose to tail x 3/8"W x 1-3/8"H.
