Formerly in a Private Collection , Basel, Switzerland. The Greek fish plate was a circular dish for serving seafood. Its broad open form supported on a stemmed foot allowed the fish to be placed directly on the plate, while the juices would gather in the centre. This exceptionally large example features three fish, striped and with spiky dorsal fins, swimming counterclockwise. Between them three small scallops. a wave pattern is also applied to the overhanging rim and around the central depression. See I.Mc Phee and A.D. Trendall, Greek Red- figure Fish-plates, Basel, 1987. - (LA.539)
