His open-palmed gesture seems to suggest his vulnerability, his acceptance of his mortal status and his willingness to take whatever fate deals him. When we gaze upon a votive piece like this, so many questions arise: who offered him and under what circumstances? What did that person expect in return? Were their prayers answered?
