Sir Luke Fildes 1842 1927 Pre-Raphaelite watercolour portrait signed and dated 1875; this important artist recommended by pre-Raphaelite founder John Everett Millais to Charles Dickens, whom hired the artist on the spot after 15 minutes of interview; he was assigned to illustrate the last book of Dickens Edwin Drood ~ masterpiece "The Doctor" commissioned by Henry Tate (Tate Museum Founder) Fildes made a self-portrait with dying child and wife; this art generally seen as blue-print of the ideal doctor... studied with Hubert von Herkommer, generally viewed as Pre-Raphaelite artist ~ condition fine wonderful intricate lace work!
