Large striking elegant intricately hand carved wood 19th Century French Louis XV gilt frame. This fine example of French period artisanship had been painted over in gray. Much of the original gold gilting can be seen underneath. A close up of the corner reveals the frame is indeed carved wood, not gesso other lesser materials (see photo).
